Managing Partner
Scott McCarthy
Scott is the founder and managing partner of Alacon Ventures, focusing primarily on the digital media/entertainment sector and other consumer-facing opportunities. Prior to forming Alacon in 2007, Scott held a variety of management and operating roles in media/entertainment companies over 15 years. From 2004 to 2007, he was President of Ziff Davis Game Group, an integrated media business serving more than 20 million video gamers per month. At Ziff Davis, he rationalized the traditional magazine side of the business while greatly expanding the group's online offerings, growing from one website with less than 1 million uniques/month to six websites with 10 million uniques/month. Before Ziff, Scott spent 11 years in radio, television and digital media at The Walt Disney Company/ABC, most recently as an Executive Vice President in the ABC Broadcast Group. Among his many accomplishments at Disney/ABC, Scott served as the founding General Manager of Radio Disney, leading the network from business plan and launch in 1996 to an audience of more than 1 million kids and coverage of most of the US by 1999. Scott received an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Economics from The Colorado College, and lives in Marin County with his wife and three children.

David Williams
David is a managing partner of Alacon Ventures. He has over 18 years of experience starting, building and investing in consumer technology, digital media, and specialty retail companies in the U.S. and China. From 2003–2007, he was a Founder and Partner at Mandarin Ventures Ltd, a Beijing-based group investing in consumer-focused Chinese companies. During that time, David also served as President of GoodWork International Inc., a non-profit firm assisting humanitarian organizations in China. Previously, David was Co-Founder & SVP of Work.com, an online service backed by Dow Jones & Co. From 1997 – 2000, he was Sr. Director at Excite@Home, where he managed the e-commerce and financial content areas. Before Excite, he served as GM of the Consumer Software Division of Micrografx Inc. He began his career as an analyst at Kidder, Peabody & Co. and Charterhouse Inc. in New York. David is a graduate of Southern Methodist University and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. He is married with 3 children and lives in Marin.
